Ohaus EP6101 digital scale has been discontinued and no longer in production. The replacement for the Ohaus EP6101 is the [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/1044"]Ohaus Pro EX6201[/a] [a href="http://scaleman.com/ohaus-ex6201-electronic-lab-weighing-balance.html"]HERE[/a]. The information below is for reference only for those people that already own the Ohaus EP6101 digital balance or looking to replace their electronic laboratory scale.

Ohaus Explorer EP6101 precision balance (6100g x 0.1g) can be purchased 3 ways - the standard Explorer EP6101 which has no internal calibration and is NOT Legal for Trade; the EP6101N which IS Legal for Trade with no internal calibration (check the box in the option section for Legal for Trade. The prefix "N" designate Legal for Trade); the EP6101CN which is the EP6101 with motorized internal calibration and IS Legal for Trade (check the box in the option section for Internal Calibration. The prefix "CN" designate Internal Calibration & Legal for Trade).

The EP6101CN is [a href="http://www.scalenet.com/applications/glossary.html#ntep"]NTEP Approved[/a] (a.k.a. [a href="http://legal-for-trade.balances.com/and/legalfortrade.html"]Legal for Trade[/a]) for 6100g x 0.1g and you click the Certificate of Conformance hyperlink below in the balance specification table to fully understand the Ohaus EP6101CN limitations.

One design issue you should be aware of with the Explorer and Voyager Series outfitted with internal calibration when the balance is used in the non-NTEP mode is the inability to disable the use of internal calibration. The Ohaus line is the only balance we know of that does not allow you to disable the internal calibration. Where this becomes an issue is most calibration A2LA Certification Calibration Companies will NOT calibrate a balance unless the internal calibration can be disengaged. If your balance is going to require A2LA Certification the [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/758"]Sartorius CPA8201 balance[/a] may be a better choice.

Another design issue with the Ohaus Explorer 0.01g and 0.1 toploading balances is the windshield surrounds the platform implemented to deflect air currents from disturbing the weighing pan. Notice how the windshield wraps around the weighing pan. Sometimes this causes an obstruction in your weighing application where the item you are weighing "you think is on the platform" but actually the sample is touching the windshield, thus providing the incorrect weighing results. The [a href="http://scaleman.com/weight-measurement-scale-sartorius-cpa8201.html"]Sartorius CPA8201[/a] doesn't have this windshield design and offers a larger weigh pan 7.4" x 8.0" since Sartorius refined their balance so well it needs no windshield.

Ohaus Explorer Pro Balances are available in both analytical and precision configurations, in a variety of capacities. The Explorer Pro line of precision balances offers capacities ranging from [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/160#scientific"]210 x 0.001 grams to 32,000 x 0.1 grams[/a]. The [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/160#lab"]analytical balances[/a] line offers capacities of 62, 110 and 210 grams and you can review them all at the [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/160#lab"]bottom of this web page[/a].

If the EP6101 is too expensive and doesn't fit your budget we do have some other models we highly recommend you review that are more affordable like the [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/567"]Adam PGL8001[/a], [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/135/"]Ohaus AV8101[/a], [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/1206"]A&D EK6100i[/a] or [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/486"]A&D EJ6100 [/a]but these are all strain gauge base scales while the EP6101 is a [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89BOlViQXto"]magnetic force restortation balance[/a].

If price is absolutely critical and you want some lower quality 6100 gram digital scale with 0.1g readability then take a look at the low cost [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/262"]EPB-10K (10000g x 0.1g)[/a] or [a href="http://balance.balances.com/scales/194"]MyWeigh i11000 digital scale[/a].
