Mettler Toledo's JB4002-G/A-F electronic gram scale features 4100 grams maximum weighing capacity and increments in 0.01 gram divisions.  This Mettler balance is legal for trade and offers a durable, die-cast aluminum construction and large weighing platform.  Additional balance features include percent weighing and piece counting modes.

NTEP approval is a vital requirement in most states for jewelers selling gold by weight.  Investigators from the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures spend several days every year at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, where they checked scales used by dealers who were selling items by weight.  At the 2006 Tucson Gem and Mineral Show they confiscated 145 scales that were being used illegally because they did not conform to NTEP standards.

Weights & Measures Inspectors require the accuracy of all the commercial weighing and measuring equipment used for serving consumers and businesses be Legal for Trade.  Some have a requirement saying a scale is suitable for its intended use if the minimum load which will be weighed on it is 50 measurement divisions or more.  A scale whose smallest division is 0.01 gram is suitable for minimum loads of 0.5 grams.  The Mettler Toledo JB4002-G/A-F fits the requirement since the balance increments in 0.01 gram divisions.

Mettler Toledo's JB4002-G/A-F precision balance is legal for trade.  Sartorius GW6202 balance is not NTEP approved, and if you need a legal for trade balance, you would be better off purchasing the JB4002-G/A-F from Mettler Toledo.  Legal for trade balances are required when you are selling products based on weight.  Jewelers that sell gold by weight will certainly want a legal for trade precision balance.  If this does not apply to your weighing application, you can save a bundle of money buying a balance without the legal for trade certification.
