Calibration is important since you don't want to spend hours running a test, only to find out later that your balance was out of calibration and you'll need to scrap all the weighing data. Changes in the location where the lab balance was last calibrated makes a difference on weighing results since gravity effect weight. Gravity is not the same everywhere on earth since every place in the world is positioned differently to "magnetic north."
Differences in barometric pressure also creates slight gravitational differences, depending on your particular location's altitude compared to sea level. If the balance is moved to a place where the gravitational pull is greater or less, it will display a different value, as the force will vary.

The Entris2201i-1S calibrates itself with one mass located inside the balance, at the push of a button. Simply press of the "Cal" button and the motorized internal calibration feature performs the calibration to adjust for your location and the affects of barometric pressure and magnetic north. Small changes can mean big differences in your weight measurement results.
The internal calibration is all done automatically performing a span calibration. The process takes less than a minute beginning with no weight on the pan to obtain the zero point, then the motor engages the internal weight to achieve a span point. These values are all stored in the EPROM and calibration is completed.
If your ISO requires you to perform calibration with an external traceable weight you can still do this with the Entris2201i-1S. We always recommend you purchase an optional external 2kg calibration weight class 1 with NVLAP certificate
so you can perform the external calibration.

In the video above we walk you through the menu configuration settings & how to enable or disable weighing applications. The factory default is "weigh" and the weight unit is set to grams only. Easily change this to "Unit" allowing you to toggle an additional 4 weighing units, "Count" for parts counting plus the ability to configure a desired reference sample quantity from 1 to 10, "Percent" for percent weighing proportional to a reference weight commonly used in formulation especially ink mixing, "Animal Weighing" for weighing live insects or small critters, or "Density" for density determination and specific gravity.

See as a calibration weight is placed in the center of 4 quadrants on the platform how the Sartorius Entris measures the weight accurately. Not all digital balances weigh accurately and if you own a laboratory balance other than Sartorius we doubt it compares to the Sartorius Entris. If you own an older Sartorius balance or someone tries to give you a deal on a used or discontinued Sartorius balance just forget it and buy the Entris.
To test eccentric loading we place a weight on the center of the weighing platform and record the weight. Now place the same item in 45-degree directions (front left, front right, rear right, and rear left) and compared to the measurement at the center. Compare the weighing results and if you have eccentric errors it just might be time to retire that balance and purchase a new Sartorius Entris.
