Ohaus laboratory balances are commonly used for cosmetic manufacturing and other industry-related high accuracy weighing applications. Analytical balances, such as the Ohaus Voyager Pro, ensure meticulous weight measurements for chemical formulations during the process of developing cosmetic products.
Voyager VP114CN (110g x 0.1mg) is designed for applications that demand more than a standard weighing balance, Voyager Pro performs beyond expectations and proves to be one of the most accurate and reliable weight measurement instruments available for university research, teaching laboratories and general lab applications.
The internal software of the Ohaus VP114CN allows you to perform
pipette calibrations,
differential weighing and
density determination.
For those people wanting to perform pipette calibrations Ohaus does NOT offer the evaporation chamber as an accessory. Precision Weighing Balances typically recommends you buy the
Sartorius Genius ME235P-SD or
CPA124S Analytical line since Sartorius offers the ability to buy an optional evaporation chamber made by Eppendorf, which is really essential in pipette calibration.
Ohaus Voyager lab balances calculates the density for you - no calculator or scratch paper needed. The embedded software allows the Ohaus Voyager balance to store in memory the initial weight in air, then the weight of the object submerged in the liquid (typically distilled water - 1.00 g/ml, but could be glycerin - 1.26 g/ml, 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol 0.81 g/ml). If you don't understand specific gravity review this example of
density determination.
Performing density determination inside the draftshield requires the purchase of Ohaus' optional density determination kit. You could also use the weigh below hook and suspend the sample beneath the balance, but this is not recommended on 0.1mg analytical balances since air turbulence typically interferes with your weighing results.
If you don't need the above three software features then you probably should review the Ohaus
Explorer EP114 balance. The Voyager VP114CN verses the Explorer EP114 is similar many other aspect. Each precision balance features the same display and outer case housing. Visually looking at Voyager vs. Explorer when the balance is not powered one couldn't tell the difference between the Voyager verses the Explorer except for the sticker denoting the series on the front of the display.
Both the Ohaus Voyager and Ohaus Explorer offer a large display and menu navigation using cursor keys allowing for simple configuration to each client's specific weighing needs. The intuitive menu driven prompts make the instruction manual practically superfluous.
The Voyager VP114CN comes standard with built in internal motorized calibration while it is a costly option on the Explorer Series. The Voyager is also
NTEP Approved (a.k.a.
Legal for Trade) while the Explorer NTEP Approved version is an extra charge. If you are confused please give us a call and one of our balance experts can help you in your selection.
Ohaus VP114CN is a "Legal for Trade" precision balance and we highly recommend you click the Certificate of Conformance hyperlink below in the balance specification table to fully understand the Ohaus VP114CN limitations. The Ohaus VP114CN weighing specs are 110g weighing capacity and increments in 0.1mg increments, but in the NTEP / Legal for Trade mode the increment is only in 1mg graduations.
One design issue you
should be aware of with the Voyager Series when the balance is used in the non-NTEP mode is the inability to disable the use of internal calibration. The Ohaus line is the only balance we know of that does not allow you to disable the internal calibration. Where this becomes an issue is most calibration A2LA Certification Calibration companies will NOT calibrate a balance unless the internal calibration can be disengaged. If your balance is going to require A2LA Certification the
Sartorius CPA124S Analytical may be a better choice.
Voyager Pro is available in either four Analytical or 12 precision models and you can
see them all here.
