Adam Equipment Highland HCB153 portable scale is truly a unique digital scale rattling the scales industry and having other scale manufacturers running. Highlander offers so many features, value at an affordable price. Adam's HCB153 offers 150 grams weighing capacity with readability to 0.005 gram. What makes the Adam Highland so unique is the scale comes with both the RS-232 and USB interface as standard equipment. Competitor models like the
Ohaus Scout,
A&D EJ Series,
Acculab Vicon and
Sartorius AY scales gouge you by making you purchase their optional RS-232 or USB module for $69 or more. You have to pick either RS-232 or USB with the competition but with
Highlander you get BOTH RS-232 and USB interfaces. To make things better the HCB153
comes with both the RS-232 and USB cable. One thing the HCB doesn't come with is the data communication software but you can buy AdamDU data collection software or
WinWedge balance communication software.
Adam HCB153 also has
HandiCal™ - mechanical internal calibration with built in mass can be locked so only you calibrate the scale when you want to. The built in weight allows for quick and easy calibrations allowing you more time for weighing tasks. HandiCal™ internal calibration weight provides reliable readings time after time.
Adam Equipment’s Highland digital scales have what it takes for basic lab work, field use and various industrial applications. They feature multiple weighing units, RS-232 and USB interfaces, rechargeable battery pack and AC operation, capacity tracker, adjustable feet and level, lock down and more. Density and specific gravity determination are easy with the below balance weighing feature, and the removable draft shield liminates wind disturbances outdoors or in drafty environments. ShockProtect™ overload protection keeps the performance of the Highland safe and secure, and the Three-point ShockProtect™ can with stand up to 200kg of weight without damaging the weighing mechanism.

Adam Equipment HCB153 is a low cost milligram scale since it's weigh sensor is built using
strain gauge technology. The strain gauge can give you good weighing results for weighing static loads, but can drift much more due to temperature variations caused by excitation energy used with a load cell strain gauge weigh sensor. Typically if you trickle say like table salt in small quantities to the weighing platform the auto tracking software thinks it is drift in the loadcell verses actually weight added to the weighing pan and the weighing results don't change. You'll get better performance, linearity and repeatability with an electromagnetic weigh sensor like those found in the
Adam PGW253e,
A&D FX-120i or
Scientech ZSP150 but this weigh sensor design cost more money. If you're on a tight budget and your weighing results aren't for a super critical application then the AE HCB153 might be your best choice.
