Weighing precious stones like diamonds or pharmacy compounding applications. Many states require pharmacies that are compounding specialty drugs to only weigh on a legal for trade balance. Balance requirements vary from state to state. The requirements are dictated with each state's pharmacy law and regulations. Determining the requirements involves perusing each state's pharmacy law and regulations to determine the requirements. Precision Weighing Balances suggests contacting the agency that authorizes your pharmacy license for approval of this balance prior to making the purchase. Although this balances is approved on a national level as a pharmacy balance, state and local agency may supersede with their own regulations. It is the purchaser's responsible to verify using the above balance is in compliance with your pharmacy license requirements.
When the Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures division tells you need a NTEP Class I balance that has a verification scale division of one milligram the AX224N meets the requirement. You can learn more about verification division (e) and displayed division (d) by downloading NIST Handbook 44 - 2014 Edition here and review Section 2.
We understand purchasing a legal for trade balance is a major capital expense and if you have any questions give us a call and one of our weighing experts can discuss your weighing application and get you the most affordable balance for your weighing needs. You can also read more about what is a legal for trade here.
The Adventurer AX224N has built in AutoCal enabling automatic internal calibration. The Adventurer has a level bubble in a small round window beside the display. To level the balance, adjust the 4 leveling feet until the bubble is centered in the circle. The Ohaus Adventurer AX even has a level assist function where the display shows examples of images and which feet to adjust depending on the location of the level bubble until the bubble is centered. All NTEP Approved precision weighing balances must have a level bubble and adjustable feet since your balance must be leveled each time its moved to insure accurate weighing results.
The display features include a weighing capacity bar guide that will show the current weight as a percentage of balance capacity. A real-time clock function keeps accurate time even during power loss and the GLP data capability has the ability to record Sample name, Project names and Balance ID's to help meet traceability and compliance requirements.
Additional attributes include RS232 interface, integral weigh below hook, full housing in-use cover, removable stainless steel pan, die-cast metal bottom housing, security bracket, illuminated up-front level indicator, four adjustable feet, software lockout menus, stability indicator, software overload/underload indicators, user selectable environmental settings, audible indicator, user selectable brightness settings, auto dim, touchscreen calibration, auto tare, user selectable operating language.

Are you going to be performing density determination of samples? You'll need to purchase the OPTIONAL Ohaus Density Determination Kit. See how to install and use the Ohaus Density Determination Kit. This YouTube video shows the density kit with the Ohaus Adventurer Analytical Balances. You'll see exactly what comes with the kit.
In the YouTube Video above get a general introduction of the Ohaus Adventurer AX Laboratory Balance.
Is the Ohaus Adventurer AX224 too pricey for your budget? Check out either the Sartorius Entris 224-1S (external cal only) or Sartorius Entris 224i-1S (internal motorized calibration). The Sartorius Entris Balances are made in Germany while the Ohaus AX224N is made in China. Please note the Entris224 is not legal for trade like the AX224N. If you need a legal for trade approved analytical balance then see the Mettler Toledo JS1603C/A with a huge 320 gram weighing capacity and much less money than the Ohaus AX224N.
Need more accuracy? Do you need a 5 decimal place gram balance? The Sartorius Secura and Quintix semi microbalances are amazing. In the YouTube video above you will see the Sartorius Secura225D-1S semi microbalance [0-120g x 0.01mg] [120-220g x 0.1mg]. We highlight the intuitive operation using the SmartTouch user interface that is so easy to use you'll probably never need to reference the user manual. We also demonstrate the ergonomic draftshield and show how easy it is to dismantle the balance for easy cleaning.
Also you'll get a close up view of the new "collection container". The collection container is designed to keep the spill from entering the lab balance that could cause potential damage to the balance. Sartorius' revolutionary "collection container" features a rimmed design to keep the spill from entering if you happen to spill any liquid or granular samples while weighing.
If the Secura225D-1S is more balance than you need for your weighing application then be sure to see the Secura 125-1S, Sartorius Quintix125D-1S, Sartorius Quintix65-1S or Sartorius Quintix35-1S. Sartorius is our #1 selling laboratory weighing balances since they are the leaders in building high quality weighing instruments.
