Mettler Toledo's JL602GE is the replacement for the JL602-G/LA01.
The Mettler JL602GE jewelry scale has a maximum weighing capacity of 620 grams with readability to 0.01 grams and comes standard with the RS-232 interface. The RS-232 can be used to connect your Mettler JL602-GE to the optional Mettler remote display, Mettler printer, or computer (data acquisition software like Winwedge and the RS-232 cable are extra). Also included is the 500 gram external calibration weight to calibrate your Mettler scale.
If you are selling jewelry directly to customers in your store, then you are required by many weights and measures inspectors to have a secondary display allowing the customer can see the weight in real time. Example, if you've ever bought cheese from a delicatessen, you know that when the store employee weighs out the cheese, you and the store clerk both have separate displays as the cheese is weighed. By having 2 display the scale is "legal for direct sales". The optional remote display with backlight has a cable length 6 feet and is an additional $99.00.
For people running a gold party buying and selling gold, silver or other precious metals, there are several essential items you'll need. One of them is a jewelry scale like a Mettler JL602GE Legal for Trade Digital Scale. The NTEP mode features a less precise readability with 0.1 gram increments.
You can configure the Mettler JL602-GE to toggle between two weigh units. Many pawnshops that buy and sell scrap gold set the scale to weigh in grams (620 g x 0.0 g) and pennyweight (385.80 dwt x 0.0 dwt). Jewelers might set the Mettler Toledo JL602GE to weigh in grams (620 g x 0.0 g) and carats (3000 ct x 0.0 ct). While, precious metals buyers, smelters, refiners of silver might set the Mettler-Toledo JL602GE to weigh in troy ounces (19.2900 ozt x 0.000 ozt) and pennyweight (385.80 dwt x 0.0 dwt).
The biggest selling point for the Mettler Toledo's JL602-GE other than the prominent Mettler-Toledo name is this scale operates on either AC Adapter of four (4) AA batteries. We get numerous complaints from customers that buy the A&D EK-1200i since the A&D does not run off of standard batteries but instead you must buy A&D special NiMH Battery Pack for an addition $195.00. Yep it is crazy in a day when you can go buy 4 - AA NiMH rechargeable batteries at Walmart for under $20 A&D designs their scale so you can only use their $195 NiMH Battery Pack.
The Mettler Toledo's JL602GE legal for trade digital scale is NTEP approved (National Type Evaluation Program) complying with the applicable technical requirements of "NIST Handbook 44: Specifications, Tolerances and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices".
The “d” (value of scale division) is 0.01 grams and the “e” (value of verification scale division) is 0.1 grams. When "d" and "e" are not the same value the last division on the scale's display is "boxed". If you placed a gold chain on the Mettler Toledo's JL602GE the display might read 102.1 grams. So the item weighs 102.14 grams and since "d" and 'e" are not equal the last decimal is uncertain. A pawnbroker could tell the customer - you have 245.1 grams.
The Mettler Toledo's JL602GE is a Class II weighing devices. Handbook 44 defines a Class II balance as any weighing device with 10,000 - 100,000 verified divisions. Since the Mettler Toledo's JL602GE weighs up to 620 grams and "e" is equal to 0.1 grams it is therefore 6,200 verified divisions. All this information can be verified by downloading the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) Certificate of Conformance 15-017 above.
All this Legal for Trade stuff sounds technical but it is critical information required especially for the booming medical marijuana industry. States like Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington all are getting involved with medical marijuana dispensaries. To comply with all the regulations one requirements is a legal for trade. Always check with your state requirements whether you need a digital scale that is readable to 0.01g or legal for trade to 0.01 grams. If they tell you the "e" must be to 0.01 gram then review the A&D FX300iN.
The new Mettler-Toledo JL602GE offers some new features over the discontinued Mettler JL602-G/LA01. The weighing platform has been increased to 6.3 inch diameter while the JL602-G/LA01 was only 4.7" in diameter. The SmartTrack feature now has a visual dynamic graphic indicator to show how much weighing capacity of the scale has been used. The SmartTrack is located on the left side of the weight display. The ability to weigh below the scale for specific gravity applications. The jewelry scale offers a stackable cover so if you have multiple scales you can stack them when not in use.
The Mettler Toledo JL602GE scale's display now shows "MT GREEN" if scale is switched off to standby mode. While in standby mode the digital scale consumes less than 1 watt of power (I guess the environmentalist have gotten to Mettler-Toledo or maybe Al Gore is friendly with the company since digital scales don't consume a lot of power. In today's marketplace place a guess everyone needs to be power responsible. Hmm, doesn't Gore's home uses more than 20 times the national average?
If you download the user menu there are some other features like a service reminder, internal clock for date and time if you were outputting data and needed to comply with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). If you are printing out the weight on the optional Mettler-Toldeo printer it will even print out the "temperature" the scale was unused in so I assume this means the scale has an internal thermistor, but if you download the "Mettler-Tolede JL-G Jewelry Scales User Manual" you can read more about this function.
Some of these functions really are not applicable to a jewelry scale or a jeweler weighing requirement but these features are included in the JL602GE since Mettler uses the same scale to sell to the laboratory and scientific marketplace under the model PL602E.
