The A&D FX-3000iN electronic balance meets the requirements for a legal for trade scale as a Class II weighing device defined in Handbook 44. All this information can be verified by downloading the CofC # 08-045A2 so you can printout this certificate to check with your Weights & Measurements Inspector if they will allow you to use the A&D FX-3000iN for your particular weighing application.
Since "e" (value of verification scale division) and "d"(value of scale division) are NOT EQUAL there are some states like Minnesota that require pawnshops weighing gold and other precious metals that the digital scale MUST BE ABLE TO READ "e" to 0.01g.
Retail marijuana dispensaries that sells less than 1 ounce in Oregon Weights & Measures Inspectors will only accept "e" with a division value of 0.01 grams or less which the A&D FX-3000iN DOES NOT meet these requirements. If you are in one of these states then review the AND FX300iN the division value for "e" (value of verification scale division) is 0.01 grams.
Since May 2016, Colorado Measurement Standards Act for medical marijuana business operators only requires you to have a legal for trade scale that increments in 0.01 grams and they accept scales were "d""(value of scale division) is 0.01 grams and the "e"" (value of verification scale division) is 0.1 grams. The A&D FX-3000iN meets the requirements presently for Colorado marijuana retail stores. Always check with your particular Weights&Measures requirements since State, County and City regulations are evolving in this new era of legalize marijuana. The FXi Series comes standard with RS-232C interface for bi-directional communication with a PC, printer or other peripheral devices. When purchased with the optional AD-8121B printer you'll be GLP/GMP/GCP/ISO Compliant. In accordance with GLP and LIMS regulations, the balance ID number and calibration data can be printed out using A&D's AD-8121B or a PC.
The FX-i meets EMC regulations and is immune to the effects of electromagnetic fields of up to 10V/m.
All FX-i balances are backed with a 5 years manufacturer warranty making it the longest manufacturer warranty in the industry for a high quality lab balance.

Established in 1977, A&D Company, Ltd. has grown from developing digital-to-analog converters for companies such as Nippon Telegraph & Telephone, to becoming a world class producer of advanced measuring equipment for medicine, science and industry. A&D established itself as a multinational corporation, with offices in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Australia, Korea, Taiwan and Russia, and as a world leader in measurement equipment. There is a lot of confusion when it comes to buying the FX-i NTEP digital balances and hopefully the video above will clear those issues up do you don't purchase the wrong balance.
In this video I will be using the FX-300iN and what I will be covering is applicable to all the FX-iN models which includes the FX120iN. FX200iN, FX300iN, FX1200iN, FX2000iN and FX3000iN. So if you listened carefully you heard all the model numbers ended with the letter "N" which designate NTEP Approved or Legal for Trade for the AND FX-i Series. Many people really don't see any difference between the FX-300iN and the FX-300i, but there is. If you require a legal for trade weighing device especially for commercial weighing and you ordered the non-NTEP version you will have problems. As you can guess the FX-iN NTEP Approved models costs more than the FX-i Non-NTEP models.
If you are a pharmacy needing to meet the requirements for maintaining your pharmacy license you want to order the FX-300iN and not the FX-300i. The same goes for a Oregon marijuana dispensary you need the FX-300iN, while Colorado marijuana dispensaries as of March 2016 are allowed to use the FX1200iN, FX2000iN or FX3000iN. Eventually we think Colorado recreational cannabis dispensaries will follow Oregon's rules requiring the FX300iN since this model has a verification scale division of "e"=0.01g and "d"=0.001g.
So here are the differences. You receive the manual with a 1 page addendum explaining how to calibrate the balance along with a "sealing plate" and two(2) "sealing screws" and labeling above the display.
You will notice the sealing screw has a hole and this allows the Weights and Measures Inspector to place a wire through the hole and then crimp the wires together with a lead slug similar to how an electric or water meter was sealed to prevent people from tampering. Placing the wire through these screws prevents you from accessing the calibration switch to initialize the start of a new calibration.
Every balance should be calibrated prior to weighing and you should check with Weights and Measures if you can perform the calibration by purchasing your own optional calibration weight, if you have to hire a local licensed scale technician to perform the calibration or if the Weights and Measures Inspector will calibrate the scale when they inspect it and put the scale into service. You'll need to research this on your own and in some states it can cost you over $150 just for the inspection. Typically they will also place a State W&M Seal on the balance with an expiration date since scales typically they have to be verified and inspected for accuracy yearly.
You will see on the front of the balance above the display a label denoting the model number. This is where so much confusion occurs. The model is shown as FX-300i, then a circle with II inside of the circle meaning this is a Class 2 weighing device, 08-045A2 and the wording "The counting feature is not legal for trade". But wait I thought I ordered the FX-300iN yet the balance is labeled FX-300i.
What has happened is AND Weighing converts the FX-300i into the FX-300iN by changing the balance's internal software so it complies with NTEP requirements. Part of this is so the calibration can be locked out also so the last decimal place on the display is "boxed". They also place the sticker above the display identifying the CofC number and supply the two sealing screws & sealing plate. All these changes and A&D markets the product as the FX-300iN and charges more money.
Many marijuana dispensaries either already have a FX-iN balance and want to expand and order another balance or they visited a dispensary so they can figure out the equipment they need to start a store. Although looking at the digital balance's label is marked either FX-300i for Oregon or for dispensaries in Colorado FX-1200i you need to make sure you order the FX-300iN or FX-1200iN.
